About
The Busan Mackerel Festival has been held every October since 2008 at Songdo Beach, Korea's first public beach and a popular hot spot, home to attractions such as the Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge, the Songdo Cloud Trail and the Songdo Marine Cable Car. Busan is home to the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative, which catches about 90% of the mackerel from Korea's coastal waters, and the Busan Cooperative Fish Market, where 80% of the nation's mackerel is traded. The festival builds on this by linking food, culture, the arts and tourism to boost the local economy and grow the tourism industry.
