독립기념관 단풍나무숲길은 천안의 대표적인 가을 명소로, 약 3.2km 구간에 걸쳐 수천 그루의 단풍나무가 터널을 이루는 산책로이다. 10월 16일부터 11월 15일까지 매주 금, 토, 일 진행되는 독립기념관 단풍나무숲길 힐링축제는 가을철 독립기념관 일대의 자연경관과 역사를 결합하여 운영하는 문화 축제이다. 축제 기간에는 붉게 물든 단풍나무숲길을 중심으로 자연을 감상할 수 있는 산책 코스가 개방되며 다채로운 문화 행사가 함께 진행된다. 조선총독부철거부재전시공원 야간해설을 운영하여 역사적 교훈과 독립정신을 전달한다. 백범 김구 탄생 150주년을 기념하는 특별 야간 경관조명을 설치하고, 겨레의 탑을 배경으로 최신 미디어아트를 접목한 미디어파사드를 전시하여 관람객에게 특화된 야간 볼거리를 제공한다. 낮 시간의 숲길 힐링뿐만 아니라, 밤 시간의 조명과 미디어아트, 역사 해설이 어우러진 문화 공간을 제공한다. 이처럼 자연 속 휴식과 역사적 상징 공간이 결합하여 전 세대가 함께 즐길 수 있는 복합 힐링 축제이다.
