올해로 1회를 맞은 '2026 탄광문화축제'는 M650 박물관 개관을 기념하여 강원특별자치도 정선군 사북읍 일원에서 개최되는 복합 문화 축제이다. 이 축제는 과거 대한민국 산업화를 이끈 광부들의 삶과 탄광의 역사를 현대적인 문화예술 프로그램으로 선보인다. 행사의 주요 구성은 광부들의 서사를 바탕으로 기획된 대형 주제공연과 석탄산업전환지역 7개 시·군이 참여하는 연계 프로그램이다. 아울러 탄광의 역사를 접할 수 있는 관객 참여형 체험 프로그램이 함께 운영된다. 축제 공간은 새롭게 개관하는 M650 박물관과 뿌리관, 650거리 일대를 중심으로 조성되며, 각 구역의 환경에 맞춘 다양한 공연과 문화 행사가 진행된다. 사북 지역의 역사적 배경을 문화 콘텐츠로 구성하여 방문객에게 제공하는 행사이다.
